Today’s Scripture “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the LORD,
and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10)
Holding on Power
Dear One, I watched on KET (Kentucky Educational Television) that one day in 1932, 200 navy sailors were holding on to ropes attached to the airship USS Akron, as they attempted to moor this giant ship to a steel mast. With the sun breaking the clouds and being light from using fuel from its trip, the airship became uncontrolable and to prevent damage was cut loose. Some sailors hung on to the lines and were swept up with the ropes! Some sailors fell. Some were killed. But one man kept hanging on. He could be seen dangling as the ropes soared high in the sky. People were crying, screaming. People thought this sailor just couldn’t hold on very long, and every minute he might fall to certain death. He soon was pulled aboard the Akron to safety. When back on the ground he was offered an amulance trip to the hospital but he wouldn’t go — he said “I am all right.” People asked him how he had held on to those ropes so long. He told them he had found he had about four feet of rope, so while holding on with one hand, he tied the rope around his waist with the other, and praised God that God and the ropes would help him be strong and hold him. This man — tied himself with the ropes in the hands of God — and with his strength in the LORD — had just been swinging free the whole time and enjoying the ride! This reminds me of how so many Christians are trying to hold on, hold tight, and hold out! But what happens instead is they give out, they give up. Some give up and fall to their depths of despair when all that really needs to happen is to wrap yourself up in the strong, loving promises of God and swing free like that sailor — yes, holding on strong power is in trusting in Almighty LORD God and His love and Words — holding on power swings you free to enjoy the ride! In Jesus’ Name,
